Texas Municipal Tree Definitions

Landscape Administrator

 

McKinney

the person appointed by the city manager to administer city ordinances related to tree preservation, or the person's designated representative.

 

Richland Hills

means an individual or committee designated by the City Council of Richland Hills, Texas charged with administering this chapter.

 

Weatherford

the director of planning and development or designee.

 

Landscape Buffer or Buffer Planting Strip

 

Addison

a combination of physical space and vertical elements such as plants, berms, fences, or walls, the purpose of which is to separate and screen incompatible land uses from each other.

 

Balch Springs

means a combination of physical space and vertical elements, such as plants, berms, fences or walls, the purpose of which is to separate and screen incompatible land uses from each other.

 

Beaumont

the area between single-family residential and any other zoned property. This strip is to include required trees.

 

Conroe

means the use of shrubbery landscaping that at least partially and periodically obstructs an otherwise continuous street view of parking lots and their parked cars.

 

Dallas

means a landscape area that serves a buffer function.

 

Duncanville

a landscape area that serves a buffer function.

 

Houston

means the shielding or obscuring of one land use from another by the planting of evergreen trees or shrubs, or both, or the erection of a screening fence designated to minimize the transmission or propogation of noise, light, vibration, or dust, from traffic or other activity on one property to adjoining public or private properties.

 

McAllen

means a planting area within the property lines of specified width and parallel to a public street, excluding driveways for ingress and egress.

 

Stafford

means the shielding or obscuring of one land use from another by the planting of evergreen trees or shrubs, or both, or the erection of a screening fence designed to minimize the transmission or propagation of noise, light, vibration or dust, from traffic or other activity on one property to adjoining public or private properties.

 

Landscape or Landscape Area

 

Addison

any combination of living plants (such as grass, ground cover, shrubs, vines, hedges, or trees) and nonliving landscape material (such as rocks, pebbles, sand, mulch, walls, fences or decorative paving materials).

 

Alamo Heights

landscape or landscaping includes natural or artificial exterior (outdoor) forms, features, furniture, and plantings, including ground and water forms, vegetation, circulation, walks and other landscape features.

 

Amarillo

landscaping shall consist of the following or any combination thereof: grass, trees, shrubs, hedges, vines, domesticated blooming plants, and living ground cover. Such definition shall apply to the word "Landscaping" used in any tense, form, or part of speech. The use of native, drought-tolerant, or adapted plant material is encouraged.

 

Balch Springs

means any combination of living plants, such as grass, ground cover, shrubs, vines, hedges or trees, and nonliving landscape material, such as rocks, pebbles, sand, mulch, walls, fences or decorative paving materials.

 

Beaumont

shall consist of any combination of turf/grass/ground cover, shrubs, and trees. It must be installed in a sound manner and in accordance with accepted standards of the nursery industry.

 

Burleson

the planting, arranging, cultivating, and maintenance of live plant material in such a manner that said material is aesthetically pleasing and contributes to the overall design of a development site. Consists of an area included in and around a development site that has been planned to complement the development site with natural grass, ground cover, trees, or other natural plant materials.

 

Cedar Hill

that area within the boundaries of a given lot which is devoted to and consists of plant material including, but not limited to, grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, vines and other groundcover, native plant materials, planters, brick, stone, natural forms, water forms, aggregate and other landscape features, but not including the use of smooth concrete or asphalt; provided, however, that the use of brick, stone aggregate or other inorganic materials shall not predominate over the use of organic plant materials.

 

Cleveland

means trees, shrubs, ground cover, vines or grass installed in plant areas, having a minimum of ten square feet of actual plantable area and a minimum inside dimension on any side of 18 inches.

 

Dallas

means an area at least 80 percent of which is covered by natural grass, ground cover, or other natural plant materials (excluding screening).

 

Denison

plant material, including but not limited to grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, vines and other ground covers, natural land forms, water forms, planters, walks and plaza areas.

 

Duncanville

an area which is covered by natural grass, ground cover, or other natural plant materials.

 

Fredericksburg

landscaping shall consist of any of the following or combination thereof: materials such as, but not limited to, grass, ground covers, flowers, vines, hedges, trees, native plant materials, planters, brick, stone or natural forms, water forms, aggregate or other landscape features, but not including the use of smooth concrete or asphalt. The use of brick, stone, aggregate or other inorganic materials shall not predominate over the use of organic plan materials.

 

Irving

any area which is pervious and capable of supporting living organic ornamental or native plant material, waterscape or art form. Concrete or asphalt parking lots shall not be considered as landscape area.

 

Jersey Village

that area within the boundaries of a lot which is devoted to, and consists of, plant material, including but not limited to grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, vines and other groundcover, native plant materials, planters, brick, stone, natural forms, water forms, aggregate and other landscape features; provided, however, that the use of brick, stone, aggregate or other inorganic materials shall not predominate over the use of organic plant material. Smooth concrete or asphalt are not approved materials within the landscaped area.

 

Little Elm

the area within the boundaries of a given lot or where applicable, the adjoining street right-of-way, which is devoted to and consists of plant material, including, but not limited to, grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, vines and other groundcover, native plant materials, planters, brick, stone, natural forms, water forms, aggregate and other landscape features.

 

Marble Falls

any area of ground that can support vegetative groundcover and other landscaping plant materials. Sidewalks and other impervious surfaces are not considered landscaped areas. For the purposes of this ordinance, the landscaped edge and landscaped areas within parking lots are contained within this definition.

 

New Braunfels

means the area of a lot which is devoted to and consists of plant material adaptable to this region, including but not limited to trees, shrubs, grass, vines, ground cover, and other plant materials, along with planters, brick, stone walkways, natural forms, water forms, and other landscape features, but not including any paved area of smooth concrete or asphalt.

 

Port Aransas

any of the following combinations thereof; living material, such as, but not limited to, grass, ground covers, shrubs, vines, hedges, shade/canopy trees or palms. In addition, nonliving durable material, excluding paving and sand, may be used to compliment the landscaping for edging and decoration.

 

Sealy

shall mean trees, shrubs, ground cover, vines, or grass installed in planting areas having a minimum of ten square feet of actual plantable area and a minimum inside dimension of 18 inches on any side.

 

The Colony

any area which is permeable and capable of supporting living organic ornamental or native plant material or waterscape. The landscape area must support trees, turf, ground covers, seasonal color and/or shrubs.

 

Tomball

shall mean trees, shrubs, groundcover plants, vines, or grass installed in planting areas, having a minimum of ten square feet of actual plantable area and a minimum inside dimension on any side of 18 inches.

 

Webster

means that area within the boundaries of a lot which is devoted to and consists of plant material, including but not limited to grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, vines and other ground cover, native plant materials, planters, brick, stone, natural forms, water forms, aggregate and other landscape features, but not including the use of smooth concrete or asphalt; provided, however, that the use of a brick, stone, aggregate or other inorganic materials shall not predominate over the use of organic plant material.

 

Landscape Reserve

 

Baytown

means undeveloped property which is left in its natural state and is of sufficient size for the growth of plants and trees.

 

Limits of Construction

 

Kennedale

means a delineation on the graphic exhibit which shows the boundary of the area within which all construction activity will occur.

 

North Richland Hills

means delineation on the graphic exhibit, which shows the boundary of the area within which all construction activity will occur.

 

Oak Point

delineation on a graphic exhibit that shows the boundary of the area within which all construction activity will occur.
